I drank the M&P Kool-Aid

Postby Hooz » Sun Mar 02, 2008 10:12 am

Anyone who knows me already knows I am a BIG fan of Springfield's XD pistols. I own and/or have owned quite a few of them, and they are spectacular guns. That being said, I was bored the other day and drank some of the M&P Kool-Aid. When the dust settled, I had ordered a full-size M&P 9mm. :shock:

I've shot a few M&Ps since they came out, but I wasn't impressed enough to sway me from my love affair with the XD. The reported issues with magazines falling out and rusting metal didn't help to convince me either. But, I've been keeping tabs on S&W's progress, and it looks like they've finally got the kinks worked out... At least I hope so. ;)

So now I will finally have a pistol to shoot in the SSP class in IDPA this year. Now I just need to get some trigger work done and find some new sights for it and I'll be all set.

Hooz;

Congrats on your 'stepping out' into the unknown! :lol:
CPD had tons of problems with them when they were first issued (much of which was a reluctancy on the part of the officers to make the switch with an open mind (in my opinion!) But the kinks have all been worked out by Smith and all seem to be 'getting used to' their new toys. The only bad thing is that CPD was initially on an 'ammo diet', as to rnage rounds issued, but now they've cut that back to NO RANGE AMMO! Buy you own or don't shoot!!! :roll:
We need a new Mayor and a new chief!

Depending on your hand size I'd try the #2 grip, you might like it!

I feel kind of dirty. Like I'm cheating on my XDs. Maybe I need to buy another XD to make myself feel better. :)

I also pre-ordered the new Ruger LCP, so they should both (hopefully) arrive around the same time. Maybe that will hold me over for a while... But I doubt it! :twisted:

My next autoloader (down the road) will be an Armalite AR-24 I think.

Funny you should mention that, Hooz...I feel much the same way lately. I've been doing a lot of shooting with my HK USPc, since I won't be able to use my XD at the police academy; the other day I shot the XD again, and it was like I'd forgotten how easy it was to shoot well. I miss it.

Well... I took my new M&P up to Ronnie at Boom Boom Tactical for a little TLC and I couldn't be happier. Everything I didn't like about the trigger is now perfect! It is smooth as glass, breaks right at 4.02# and it has a solid (and audible) reset.

The sights I had put on will take a little getting used to, but I'm looking forward to shooting this thing in IDPA this year.

I also drank the modern M&P (full-size 9mm) Kool-Aid last year, and have been very pleased with it so far. It is a Revision N and wears a set of Big Dot sights. I've got about 1,000 rounds through it so far and have had no problems; it'll be going through Fighting Pistol in May.

Boom-Boom knows his stuff. I had him do his trigger magic on my M&P 9 and also the 11 degree target crown and feed-ramp polish. The thing shoots rings around my G17 and even keeps up with the EMP. He's the man.

I have the MP 9C and MP .40 and love both. The 9 compact is my CC and it is a great little weapon.

The Hi-Point has a lifetime guarantee, for anyone who owns one. You dont have to be the first owner. I would feel adequately and safely armed with a Hi-Point, although it is hardly my first choice.
